Success Story
The Help Me Learn family support worker (FSW) started making weekly visits to the Rodriquez family in April. Their son Juan was five, but not yet able to hold a pencil properly. He didn’t recognize basic colors and was not able to count to ten. Mrs. Rodriquez enrolled Juan in a summer program at the local elementary school prior to the beginning of school. After a few days in the summer program, Juan’s teacher called the house. She congratulated Mrs. Rodriquez because among her 20 students, Juan was the only one able to read and write his name. He also recognizes basic colors, can say the alphabet and easily counts to 20. Juan is now a happy kindergartener at the local school.
